The importance of a university’s social contribution has been discussed and was triggered by a Central Council for Education report titled, “A Future Vision for Higher Education in Japan” in 2005. Encouraged by these types of university education reforms, a growing number of students are becoming engaged in activities in their focal communities. There is a need to clarify where these student activities exist within national trends. In addition, objective and comprehensive data are needed to help improve the roles played by universities in the local community. In the 2022 year, the peer circle at University U in Chiba city started a cafe for middle and high school students as a place where they can feel a sense of belonging.
