This paper outlines the existing definitions and theories on co-dependency and the activities of self-help groups (SHG) relevant to co-dependency in the U.S. and Japan, then discusses the potential situations and different needs of members attending those SHG meetings. The survey included participant observations of SHG \nmeetings and interviews involving people who self-acknowledge as being co-dependent.
